A short introduction

Greetings wayfarers
, we arrive at the twilight before the Dark Night of the Soul. Or should I say that we have strayed from the True Way into the Dark Wood of Error? Mystical reveries aside methinks we have taken a wrong turn. Or six. For the great Dystopians, Huxley and Orwell, seem almost like optimists now. If "Man is a tightrope, stretching between animal and Overman -- a tightrope over an abyss," the last century has shown that he has fallen into the abyss. And having fallen only a little way, seems curiously ambivalent about climbing out. The upper reaches of the abyss have their charms after all. But now his grip begins to fail and the great darkness below seems to be calling him, inexorably, to the depths...will he go down? Methinks he will and that we shall come to see the first Dark Ages as a dress rehearsal. And yet as the failing strength of the careworn wayfarer of the Dark Wood is replenished at the threshold of the Inn, with its fire, light and fellowship, by ale and good cheer, so may this metaphysical Tavern nourish and give new courage to flagging spirits, err the return to the Heart of the Dark.
